Tried your first ever Bounce Lovers class and woke up the next day feeling… not quite yourself? Achy, fatigued, maybe even a little queasy or headachy? Don’t worry — you’re not alone. What you’re experiencing might be what’s known as the “detox flu.”
What is the “Detox Flu”?
The detox flu (also called a “healing crisis” or Herxheimer reaction) is a temporary response your body might have when it starts flushing out built-up toxins, especially after a new form of movement that gets your lymphatic system firing — like rebounding!
Rebounding is one of the most effective ways to stimulate lymphatic drainage. Your lymphatic system helps clear waste, toxins, and excess fluid from your body — but unlike your circulatory system, it doesn’t have a pump. Movement, especially up-and-down bouncing, gives it the nudge it needs to do its job efficiently.
Common Detox Symptoms May Include:
- Headache or lightheadedness
- Mild nausea
- Muscle aches or fatigue
- Brain fog or irritability
- Extra sweating or frequent trips to the loo
Why Does It Happen?
If you’ve been a little sedentary, eating a less-than-clean diet, or are new to high-intensity movement, your body might not be used to this level of detox. When toxins start moving out quickly, your system can become temporarily overwhelmed — leading to flu-like symptoms.
What You Can Do:
1. Stay Hydrated – Flush out those toxins! Add a pinch of sea salt or a squeeze of lemon to your water for extra support.
2. Rest When Needed – Give your body space to recover. Detox is a sign your system is responding — which is a good thing.
3. Eat Clean – Focus on whole foods, reduce processed sugar and alcohol, and consider adding antioxidant-rich fruits and leafy greens.
4. Keep Moving — Gently – You don’t have to go all-out, but gentle bouncing, walking, or stretching will help keep your lymph system active and ease symptoms faster.
5. Epsom Salt Baths – A warm soak can relieve sore muscles and help draw out toxins through the skin.
The Good News?
The detox flu usually only lasts a day or two, and once it passes, you’ll likely feel lighter, clearer, and more energised than before. Your body is adjusting to a new, healthier rhythm — and that’s something to celebrate!
So if you’re feeling a bit off after your first rebounding class, take it as a sign: change is happening, and you’re moving in the right direction.
Stick with it — your body will thank you.
Bounce on!
